Christmas is the warmth of fires burning and people gathering and gifts being exchanged and happiness swirling around as jingle bells fill the air.
It is also the strength to endure when life feels cold or things feel hard or circumstance feel heavier than you were expecting.
Christmas is a million different things in a billion different ways through a trillion different people…it is whatever it looks like to remember that the King of Kings sent His son to be with us—right here, exactly where we are. We no longer have to travel to find Him for He made His home within us.
As we walk and as we go and we be and as we live, He is with us.
The everlasting counselor,
The Alpha and the Omega,
The Prince of Peace—He came so that we could have a Christmas that never ends.
And so while we wish it were always the easy moments that propel joy and the cheerful memories of life being lived out loud, Christmas is also the moments of mourning and hardship, because it is actually in those when hope must be alive. It is when life brings the unexpected or our spirit feels sad or loneliness sets in that the spirit of Christmas must invade us once again…Immanuel, God WITH us.
It is the GREAT and it is also the grit.
It is the fun and the frustrating.
It is the constant remembrance that He came, not despite us but because of us!!!
Rescuing and breathing life into us.
Because when life isn’t merry, what will help us be? It must be inside. Deeper. Greater than what we see.
So wherever we are, whether it looks like what we pictured or it couldn’t be further away, may we remember that the greatest gift of all has already come—the presence of the One who changed everything.
He is permeating this place with peace,
He is canvassing this space with JOY,
He is giving us the gift of HOPE that cannot be taken, touched, or tampered with—it is truly unshakable.
