Let’s be honest—if you could avoid dealing with the really hard stuff and still produce good fruit, would you?
If you could maintain the appearance of a healthy garden without having to tend to the actual roots, would you?
It is human, normal, and expected that we would rather do what feels easy, comfortable, and tangible than what feels hard, uncertain, taxing, and vulnerable.
But God is loving. So crazy merciful. Undoubtedly kind. Consistent in every season. Totally and wholeheartedly devoted to your HEALTH, He will never compromise the appearance of growth and nourishment when any part of you is in jeopardy.
Time and time again in scripture, He addresses this.
In a million different ways, He reminds us: I don’t care what the world says, I’m committed to your heart. Your wholeness. Your health. The depths of WHO you are, because ultimately, that is all that is real.
We notice the unhealth usually when things don’t go as planned,
when we feel offended by others, when life throws a major curveball,
when scarcity seems to loom,
when the opportunity to be jealous knocks,
when our idols claw their way to the surface,
when we choose to be comfortable over be healed…
All of it.
The fact that His truth + love provides a laser beam to the dry, dying parts of the soil so that they can be nourished is pure MERCY.
You can’t outsmart being emotionally drained.
You can’t spiritualize your way out of burnout, bitterness, or brokenness.
The soil of your life is everything.
Though you think you want growth, because you can see it and touch it and speak to it, you actually want health.
The lasting kind.
Dig deep. It’s worth it.
