Be willing to be misunderstood

on December 12, 2024

One of my friends asked me the other day, “Do you struggle with being misunderstood? Or worry when you think someone misunderstands you?”
I quickly answered, “I don’t think so?…let me think on that.”
After a couple of minutes, I thought about a situation in my life and realized how much it bothered me when I felt like the intention of my heart wasn’t obvious. In fact, when I think someone doesn’t fully understand why I might have done, said, or responded in a certain way, or just why I’m operating/doing what I’m doing, I make it my MISSION to help them understand.

Surely, no matter how complex the situation or how confusing it may look from the outside, they will understand if we explain it to them, right? Or maybe we can make them have a revelation that will easily piece everything together.
OR maybe we just disagree about the best way to look like Jesus in a situation. And that causes tension.
We just want it to be good!!!!
For it to feel easier.
To flow without opposition or disrupting the peace.
But isn’t that just the point? The hope that the Father has for His children? That they would be so acutely aware that they are seen, directed, protected, + understood by their Heavenly Father that the opinions of others begin to fall away.
Slowly but surely, with each step of faith and trust, the weight of what others assume, think, or even claim about you becomes less and less.

Imagine how Mary felt knowing she was a virgin + told that she would carry the risen King? Logic has nothing to do with love.
Contemplate how Daniel felt as he continued to pray God, despite laws made in the very effort to throw him in jail for refusing to bow to the King. His devotion felt radical, getting him thrown in the lions den. But why? It seems so unfair.

How far could you go if you didn’t stop + survey what others thought of you?
What kind of freedom could you walk in if alignment with Him far outweighed the agreement of others?
Are you willing to be misunderstood so that the world around you can know + see the kindness of God?

Truth prevails. Kindness wins. Authenticity holds. Integrity protects. Light invades. Peace surpasses. Faithfulness covers. Humility paves the way.
