I read this verse not too long ago and thought, “how in the world have I never read this?”
Or rather, if I have read it, how did I miss this? This scripture that literally feels like hearing a lullaby when life is not how you pictured it or you’re navigating a journey you feel inadequate to discern or do.
Or when things are heavy and you go from talking about hope to clinging to it, learning that your original grasp was often on the tangibility of the circumstance and not the holder of time.
We are in a time where darkness feels imminent, tragedy seems to strike far often than it used to, and hopelessness is an epidemic that the enemy is doing his best to spread. He has very few tactics; his ploy is to magnify the destruction, increase the discouragement, and send the message that depravity is rampant and restoration isn’t possible.
But herein lies the beauty that the darkness brings…it reveals that light still overcomes it. Even here—it stands no chance.
In the den with the lions, Daniel saw the unshakeable sovereignty of God.
Amidst the walls of the prison, Joseph witnessed the perfect provision of the Protector.
Deep in the waters of the unknown, Jonah discovered the relentless mercy of the Shepherd.
Navigating the valleys, David learned the unconditional kindness of the Creator.
At the foot of the cross, where the whole sky turned black, Mary understood what it was to know love from the King.
The secret riches are the reminders that His presence is always the gold. In every season, no matter how fierce the struggle, the nearness of the Shepherd to the sheep doesn’t shift.
And it is here—where you fight the voice of loneliness and emptiness and scarcity and hopelessness and you lean into the whisper of the Father that softly says, “I haven’t left. You are finding hidden treasures that will help you truly believe that my nearness is your source of rescue. Always.”
Hidden treasures…secret riches…yielding a faith that can stand firm in the fire, a heart that knows who can heal it, and a soul that isn’t scared of what the future brings…for when it feels hardest, the greatest gold is being gleaned 💎
