Sometimes, the day is just hard.
Maybe the morning kicked off in a rush and your spirit just felt hurried all day,
Maybe hiccups happened and things just did NOT turn out how you expected,
Maybe you received news you weren’t expecting and suddenly, everything just felt heavier,
Maybe you poorly handled a situation or had to endure consequences to a previous action and regret pinged you,
Maybe you gave the enemy way too much air time and anxiety played its soundtrack all day,
Maybe you just felt tired and defeated and you’re just longing to operate from a place of feeling “caught up”,
Or maybe it was just a hard day—for a lot of reasons or not many at all—just the weight of the human heart navigating a world that is not its home.
You don’t have to be able to pinpoint something to give it validation—but who you turn to as you lay your head will absolutely determine your peace as you sleep and your posture as you wake up tomorrow.
I don’t think Jesus throws moral platitudes at us when we just need His ear and a hug.
I don’t think He expects us always to end the day with exclamatory remarks and list today as our preference for tomorrow to happen the same way. Stating that today was hard and you hope tomorrow is better doesn’t mean you aren’t grateful; it just means you are human.
Actually, acceptance of reality and emotional awareness allows you to find gratitude and choose what drives your narrative forward.
I think Jesus is smiling at you, hearing the words that you’re saying and those you can’t find quite yet.
Pulling you in close, letting His strong + secure frame envelop + stabilize your fragility…His favorite.
And as He assures you of His presence that has already gone into tomorrow and will be with you every step of the way, your nervous system calms down, your heart feels His warmth, and your mind slowly quiets itself…
“I love you. Now, rest,” you hear Him say.
And there it is—the peace you worried you wouldn’t find tucks you into its fold.
HOME.
You can rest. You’re home.
And I think tomorrow will be better 🤍
