I remember my pastor telling me, “It’s not the what that He calls you to, it’s the who.”
The who. The hearts that He has called you to love and the lives He has entrusted you to help shepherd, encourage, mold, steward, serve, and love.
This is the home. Not the building or the particulars of the four walls but the people that fill it; sometimes, those people aren’t directly in our living space, but are your inner circle.
I think the Lord really wants to make sure that I get this as I travel more here and there.
I take it really, really seriously—the chance to talk about Jesus and share and be with others as we dig deep together—the incredible HONOR it is to hold a Bible and share about the God who hasn’t just saved me, but keeps saving me despite myself. It’s the greatest mystery I’ll never shut up about.
But I’m certain that the only way I’ll be sustained is if I get the order right—if I set the necessary boundaries to always be able to give my first and best to my family + friends—if I seek Jesus and allow margin to know when He’s saying yes and saying no—to be vigilant about being a part of the local church and giving in the space I call my home.
It is great to be obedient outside those walls but if it operates outside Kingdom order, restlessness sets in, peace evaporates, resentment builds, + confusion sets in as you wonder, “How are my hands worn with digging but I don’t see the fruit of deep roots?”
I’m so thankful for a God who continually calls us back to Himself, aren’t you?!? I want us to be a people who He can send out because we have sat at His feet, drank of the living water, offered it to those we hold dearest, and have been refreshed to share it with the world.
He will never call us to operate in a capacity that threatens those He has called us to first.
That’s Him mercifully protecting our peace.
The tension we feel that we often misassociate with our purpose or passion or between those we love is not the presence of either, but the misprioritization of both.
Since Genesis, He has been a God of order.
This insulates the pathway with peace, power, + provision.
And when that is right, the freedom, adventure, + joy are like no other 🤍
